A Week in the Life of a Sheet Metal Cladder
Working as a sheet metal cladder at Technotherm Ltd. is a rewarding and challenging career for those who thrive in a hands-on environment. Each week presents new tasks, opportunities for teamwork, and the satisfaction of seeing a project progress under your care.
Here’s what a typical week looks like:
Monday: Preparing for the Week Ahead
7:00 AM: Start the week at the Technotherm workshop, meeting your team. This is your chance to catch up with colleagues, ensure all tools, equipment, and materials are accounted for, and finalize plans for the site.
Travel to Site: You and your team travel together to the worksite, often requiring overnight stays close to the project location. Technotherm Ltd. covers these arrangements, fostering camaraderie among teammates during your time away.
Site Setup: Upon arrival, the site supervisor conducts a walkthrough to finalize the week’s plan, identify potential hazards, and ensure everything is in order. Meanwhile, the rest of the team prepares the work area, sets up equipment, and ensures all materials are ready for use.
Daily Briefing: The supervisor assigns tasks and outlines the objectives for the day, ensuring everyone is aligned before work begins.
Tuesday – Thursday: Hands-On Work
Each day begins at 7:00 AM with a quick team briefing. The supervisor provides updates on progress and delegates tasks for the day.
Tasks You’ll Tackle:
Preparing Pipework: Protecting pipes, vessels, and valves by wrapping them in suitable materials.
Cladding Installation: Fitting 0.9mm aluminium cladding onto pipework and vessels with precision and care. This requires teamwork, problem-solving, and attention to detail.
Foam Injection: Toward the latter part of the week, you’ll inject foam insulation into the prepared pipework, ensuring everything is sealed and insulated to exacting standards.
Snagging and Adjustments: Addressing any issues or imperfections in the work to ensure a flawless finish.
Collaborative Environment: While the work is demanding, your team of three to four members, including a supervisor, supports each other throughout the day. The work atmosphere is professional yet enjoyable, with an emphasis on learning and growth.
End-of-Day Clean up: Each day wraps up at 6:00 PM with a thorough cleaning of the work area to maintain a safe and organised site.
Friday: Final Touches and Review
Final Push: Friday is focused on completing tasks for the week. This often involves finishing foam injection, securing cladding, and conducting a thorough inspection of the week’s work.
Detailed Clean up: The team performs a comprehensive clean up, ensuring the site is left in pristine condition. This step is essential for maintaining Technotherm’s professionalism reputation.
Supervisor’s Report: The site supervisor uploads photos and a summary of the week’s progress to the project group. This includes notes on what was accomplished and targets for the upcoming week.
Weekend Work and Flexibility
Due to the nature of our industry and client requirements, some factories cannot shut off areas during the week. As a result, weekend or bank holiday work is sometimes required to complete projects on schedule.
Advanced Notification: You’ll always be notified at least one week in advance if you are scheduled to work a weekend or bank holiday.
Flexibility in Projects: These additional workdays are balanced with clear communication and support to ensure minimal disruption to your plans.
